Big thanks ❤️🔥 to Melville🐋 for finding this music video for me.
There are moments in life when even thinking about a task (let alone doing it) feels like moving mountains. These tasks can be tiny, especially if you're dealing with depression. A point may come when even brushing your teeth feels like a chore.
The thing is, even if you make yourself do these things, the act of convincing yourself takes a huge amount of energy. This is why I believe in building discipline throughout life ; not perfectly, but intentionally.
I have a process: I add tasks as rules to my discipline book. For 7 years, I have added small and big tasks to this book , from small things like brushing teeth, eating super healthy, washing dishes after eating, to bigger ones like working out regularly, reading every day, or not postponing medical checkups.
Once in a while, the monkey in my brain tries to derail my rules. I may be tired or even mentally exhausted (especially lately with everything happening). For these times, I use a trigger to create momentum.
This trigger is usually music or a music video, sometimes perfume, sometimes a picture.
I use the trigger, say 1, 2, 3, and then I just start. I don't think about how tired I am or that I'm not in the mood. After a while, this trigger works even better because each time I use it, I pass a mental barrier. So next time, it gives me even more energy.
The video below is one of my momentum triggers:
